Carla Hansen
Yearbooks have always been a part of my life. I was editor-in-chief of both my junior high and high school yearbooks in the LA area. I moved on to UC Santa Barbara where I was also editor-in-chief of the La Cumbre yearbook. My first teaching job at a small private high school in Santa Barbara included yearbook. My husband's job brought us to Northern California where, along with raising my 4 boys, I advised two more great yearbook programs; first at Northgate High in Walnut Creek and at Santa Teresa High in San Jose, where I also taught English, Leadership, and was co-Activities Director. I understand the difficulties of advising a yearbook and managing very demanding and diverse teaching assignments!
My passion for the yearbook process was key to motivating students to produce many award winning yearbooks, including many CSPA medalists, a top 5 finish in the Best in Show competition at the JEA/NSPA national convention, and a Pacemaker Finalist.
I joined the Herff Jones family because I want to be able to help advisers and staffs fall in love with the yearbook experience. My enthusiasm and passion are obvious when I begin sharing my knowledge and expertise with others. I am able to teach and train, support and validate, listen and laugh. I have lots of solutions for building strong themes and page design, creating great copy and grading systems, designing assignments after the book is final, team building activities, fundraising events, and more.
No matter how much or how little yearbook experience you have, I can help you exceed your expectations and enjoy the process. Together we can develop a partnership that focuses on creating a successful and
rewarding yearbook program.
